Rubik’s Cube Cabinet

One of my sons just got his own place and enjoys playing all sorts of games with his friends. He has accumulated a good amount of board and card games and needs somewhere to store them.

Being a math guy, he is quite successful with a Rubik’s Cube. We came up with this idea and happened to find a near perfect table to make it happen. With a few adjustments (wood and wheels), it is starting to take shape.

His one requirement: it had to be solvable.

“Coffee” Table

This functional table was created using a cylindrical end table covered with various coffee mugs of coffee manufacturers and cafes.

The materials for the “coffee” on top included several plates and two candle holders.

The handle was cut from a chair armrest. A new coat of chocolate brown paint was also added.

The inspiration came mostly from seeing so many coffee mugs from various known coffee establishments. For those who remember Kramer’s Coffee table book from “Seinfeld”, I did not consciously use his idea as my inspiration.

Television Cabinet

This storage cabinet (the top opens) is made to resemble an old-time TV set. Tile pieces were cut from ceramic coffee mugs, plates, a planting pot, thimbles, and angel wings (dials). The TV Guide is raised above the set top. Look for your favorite shows on top, channels on one side and local stations on the other. Wheels were added to allow easy maneuvering. 23″ long by 14″ wide by 19″ tall.
